Frederick John Neal was born in Chippenham on 26th April 1897 (Newmarket Q2-1897 3B:521), baptised in Chippenham on 18th March 1898 , son of Thomas George and Emma NEAL (née BARTON).

1901 census...Aged 4, he was at Badlingham, Chippenham, with his father George NEAL (NEALE) [33] horse man; his mother Emma [31]; sister Alice E [9] and brothers Thomas G [7], Charles [6] and Bertie [1]. Except for his Barton Mills born mother, the family were all born in Chippenham.

1911 census...Aged 14, a farm labourer, he was at The Street, Gazeley, with his parents, brothers Thomas George, Charlie, (both farm labourers), Bertie and sister Dorothy Emma [2] born Gazeley.


He enlisted in Newmarket. Nothing else is known at present.




Frederick Neal is buried in All Saint's churchyard, Gazeley (NW corner)
